This was written by TEEM student, Chris Cunningham, after hearing University of Oklahoma Head Wrestling Coach, Jack Spates, speak.
“Yesterday I didn’t know where I was going, today I have a plan. Last week I had no idea who I was, today I have an idea of whom I want to be. I never knew that people cared, but today I know someone does.
I have walked a mile in a poor mans shoes, I have lived a rough life never knowing that I was the one who made it that way. Today I know that hard work and determination is a “key” to a good and beautiful life.
I always thought I had no purpose, no reason to care. Always doubting myself, using excuses not to carry on or follow through with what I started. Today I have been inspired not knowing what to expect, going out on a limb is not what I do, but today I am determined to take a chance.
I understand that life doesn’t always give you what you want or even what you need, today I know that there is peace in purpose in one and in the world we live in.
Today a man inspired me to do great things in the world and for myself. Today I believed that with much determination comes great success. Today a great man shared a piece of himself with me that made me believe.”
I never knew until today.
Once a great man said:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
